If you have ever tried to paint a miniature with your bare fingers or a teaspoon, you will sure have noticed that you are missing an essential tool. The brush! There are many different types and brands of brushes on the market. They come in all kinds of qualities and sizes. I won't go much deeper into all the different brush types here. There are other sources on the web that deal with this and a great place to find out more about brushes is at Dominic Heutelbeck's Miniature-Painting.net. Thanks Dominic, to gather so many interesting informations about brushes!

A good kind of brush to choose is the red sable brush. It's natural bristles are soft and form a good tip. A pointed tip is essential for controlled, clean and exact miniaturepainting.

I often get asked how small the brushes must be that I work with, to paint those tiny details. Well, the answer is: My smallest brushes are of 3/0 size. You can't really say that the smaller the brush is, the better the results are. It's not that simple.
