ACHTUNG!

ACHTUNG!

Oh dear, almost all of the infos here are outdated.
So until I have updated this section, please feel free to visit my other socials.

The camera

Many of the photos where taken with my Minolta SLR camera.

But now I also have a Nikon Coolpix 950 digital camera and so more and more photos will be taken with that. It has a built-in 4x optical zoom and a great macro function. And with it's 3.34 megapixels it has enough solution to make very detailed photos of my miniatures. In addition the automatic white balancing works perfect with my lighting configuration.

The lens

For the Minolta a 50mm Macro from Sigma.

The film

For the Minolta I usually took a standard FUJICOLOR SUPERIA 100 colorfilm.
Of course for the Nikon I don't need that anymore.

The lighting

To light my models optimal for photography I use a couple of swivel-mounted desktop lamps (GLOBAL from IKEA) which are each equiped with OSRAM DULUX S G23 (11W/11-860 850 Lumen LUMILUX Daylight) bulbs. These daylight fluorescent lamps have a slight blue tint, which I am able to compensate with the white balancing function of my digital camera.

These lamps can be easily positioned into various directions and enable me to light my model perfectly.
It is allways very important to have enough light shine onto your model from he front, or else it would be clouded with shadows.

To accomplish this I place at least two of the lamps in front of the model, so that the light comes from the same direction I take my photos from.
The next 2 lamps are positions a bit upwards left and right from the model.
And the last two lamps are positioned above and slightly behind the model, so that I am able to light the backdrop also, if needed.
This configuration also decreases the commonly appearing hard shadows around the model. Further I can adjust the lamps to every desired position I might need.

The photo-setup

As you can see on the photos, I use thin artist's cardboard in grey and other colors as a backdrop. I bent it up behind the model to get a smooth flowing backdrop. The cardboard is held up by two metallic book supports with two brackets and also secured with some wire to a bookshelf.
