ei diesem schöne Modell handelt es sich
um einen Fantasy-Engel der Firma Andrea-Miniaturen
im 54mm Maßstab. Sein Name ist "Leogante"
Leider muss man zwar bei ihm auch wieder, wie so oft im Fantasy-Bereich,
mit gewissen anatomischen Unzulänglichkeiten leben, aber letztendlich
ist es nunmal Fantasy und trotz allem ein recht schönes Modell.
ls Erstes habe ich mir Gedanken über
einen schönen Sockel und seine passende Gestaltung gemacht.
Dieser schönen Figur wollte ich dann doch mal wieder eine etwas aufwändigere Basengestaltung
angedeihen lassen.
Also hab ich mir einen passenden Holzsockel rausgesucht und mit möglichen
Gestaltungselementen rumexperimentiert.
Ich hatte schon eine vage Vorstellung, was ich machen wollte.
Das das Modell in Flughaltung modelliert ist, hatte ich mir überlegt,
Leo in so einer Art Landeanflug darzustellen. Auf diese Weise
kann ich sowohl eine schöne Base gestalten, als auch das Modell mit
einer gewissen fliegenden Leichtigkeit und Dynamik in Scene setzten.
Hierzu eigneten sich ein paar Kunstharz-Säulenruinenteile aus meinem Fundus
ganz herorragend. |

his nice miniature is a 54mm Angel
from Andrea-Miniatures.
I is called "Leogante".
Like with many miniatures from the fantasy-genre, you have to live
with some anatomical insufficiency, but in the end its Fantasy and
it is never the less a beautifull model.
irst I had to come up with a nice and
suitable idea for the base.
For this beautyful model I wanted to put some more efforts in the making of
the base.
So I started by choosing a propper wooden pedestal and played around
with some scenic elements I wanted to use.
I had a vague idea, what I wanted to do.
Because Leogante is sculpted in a kind of flying/landing position
I wanted him to come down and land on the base.
This way I could arrange a nice base and give Leogante a certain airness
and dynamic at the same time.
I had a few resin cast ruined collums lying around, that fitted perfectly for this task.

achdem ich die genau Position der einzelnen
Teile festelegt hatte, habe ich die tragende Hauptsäule mit einer
Messingstange fest auf den Holzsockel gesteckt und mit 2K-Kleber geklebt.
Wie man auf dem Foto gut erkennen kann, habe ich den Holzsockel auch
gleich mit Krepp-Klebeband abgeklebt, um das Holz vor der weiteren
Handhabung und der folgenden Grundierung und Bemalung
zu schützen.
Die Oberfläche des Sockels hab ich auch noch mit einem Messer grob angerauht,
damit die Spachtelmasse bei der späteren Bodengestaltung besser hält.

fter choosing
the exact positions for the resin parts, I pinned the supporting
collum to the base with a small piece of brass wire and secured it with
2 part epoxy glue.
As you can see on the image, I've also glued some adhesive tape around
the base, to protect the wood for further handling.
The surface was then roughend up a bit with a knife, to make the putty, lateron used
for the groundwork, better stick to it. |

achdem die Säule fest mit dem Sockel
verbunden war, habe ich mit dem bewährten Molto Holzreparaturspachelt
den Boden um die Säule herum modelliert. In die noch weiche Masse
platzierte ich dann auch noch die restlichen Ruinenteile.
Diese hatte ich, genau wie die Hauptsäule, vorher noch mit Messer
und Dremel-Bohrmaschine weiter "ruiniert"!

fter the
supporting column was attached securely in place, I sculpted the groundwork
around it with my trusty Molto repair putty.
I then pressed the other two ruin parts into the still soft putty in place.
All the resinparts where "bruised" a bit more with my Dremel before.

ls die Bodenmasse gut durchgehärtet
war, wurde es Zeit, Leogant in der richtigen Postion an den Sockel
anzupassen und ihn aufsteckbar zu machen. Hierzu entfernte ich zuerst
den kleine Zinnzapfen, der sich unter Leo's rechter Fussspitze befand
(ursprünglich vorhanden um Leo auf die mitgelieferte kleine Felsenbase aus Zinn
stecken zu können), bohrte an dieser Stelle ein Loch durch den Fuss
hoch bis in die Wade und klebte dann ein Stück Messingdraht ein.
In die Säule habe ich dann auf halber Höhe ein passendes Loch gebohrt,
in das ich Leo mit dem Drahtpin einstecken kann, wenn alles fertig ist.
Ich habe Leo extra nur auf halber Höhe positioniert, und nicht oben
auf der Säule, damit die Gesamtkomposition der Scene in Balance bleibt,
sich aber durch das Gegenspiel von Leo's Flugrichtung und der entgegengesetzten
Ausrichtung der Säule eine gute Dynamik ergibt.
Und es sieht auch einfach besser aus.

hen the
putty had well hardned, it was time to fit Leogante into the right
position and make him plugable. To do so, I first removed the small
peg, coming out of the tip of his right "landing" foot. (The peg was for fitting
into the small stand/base, that came with the model).
Then I drilled a whole up his right leg and glued in another piece
of brass wire.
Next I drilled a fitting hole half way up into the ruined collumn,
so I can easily plug Leo into position, when I am finished with the
whole painting process.
I choose to place Leo only half way up the collumn and not on top,
so the whole composition would stay in a dynamic balance between Leos
direction of flight and the collumn's direction.
And it also looked better that way. |

m den ganzen Sockel waldartig überwuchert
wirken zu lassen, hab ich mir überlegt, was ich alles an Vegetation
aufbringen kann. Unter Anderem wollte ich schon länger mal ein kleines bonsai-artiges
Bäumchen basteln.
ierzu hab ich zunächst aus dünnem Silberdraht
grob einen Baumstamm mit ein paar Ästen zurecht gebogen. Dieses Grundgerüst
habe ich dann auf dem Sockel an der passende Stelle aufgeklebt. Ein
paar von den Drahtenden schauen als Bogenwurzeln noch aus dem Boden
heraus. Dieses Untergerüst habe ich dann mit Molto Reparaturspachtel
verkleidet. |

make the whole ground look like sort of an overgrown forrest ground, I thought
of a couple of things to do with it.
Besides some other ideas, I always wanted to sculpt a small bonsai-like
tree.
herefore I made a small thin rough
treeshaped "skeleton" out of some silver wire.
Then I glued this frame into the propper place.
A few of the wireends look up from the ground as kind of air roots.
I then covered this frame with some more Molto repair putty.
This time the white one, without sand filler. |

ls weiteres "Grünzeug" habe ich mit meinen
bewährten Schmuckstanzen ein paar Blätter aus einer klaren Miniaturenblisterhaube
ausgestanzt und mit Sekundenkleber zu Pflanzenstauden zusammengeklebt.

foliage I made some leaves with my approved art punch out of some
plastic miniatureblisterpack and glued them together to form some shrubs.

nd hier ergab sich jetzt auch endlich
mal die Möglichkeit, weitere Fotoätzplanzen zu verwenden. Auch wenn
es ein wenig Arbeit ist, sehen diese Efeuranken von Scalelink
nach dem Zurechtbiegen und Anbringen doch ziemlich klasse aus.
Und was das erst für ein Spass wird, die anzumalen! |

project gave me the opportunity to use some more photo etched plants
and foliage from the wide range of Scalelink
stuff.
Though it is quite some work to cut and bend them into shape, these
ivy twines look pretty amazing after attachment.
And what a fun it will be to paint them! |

weitere Fotoätz-Farne, die ich später auf der fertigen Base verteilen
werde.
Zunächst möglichst natürlich zurecht gebogen und grundiert und dann
fertig bemalt.
ie Halter, auf denen die Farne zur
besseren Handhabung mit Heisskleber befestigt sind, sind übrigens
leere, auf dem Kopf stehende Filmdöschen. Da kann man sich ungefähr
ein Bild von der Größe der Farne machen. |

some more photo etched ferns, I will place onto the base lateron.
First I bent them in a natural way, then basecoated and painted them.
tw. the handles I glued the small ferns
onto for better handling, are small turned over filmcanisters.
You can make yourself a better picture of the size of these small
parts. |

em Bäumchen habe ich dann mit Hilfe
von dickflüssigem Sekundenkleber, einer Pinzette und viel Geduld eine
Belaubung aus Fotoätz-Blättchen verpasst. Auch hier wird die Bemalung
sicher ein echter Spass werden!

help of cayno glue, some tweezers and a lot of patience I attached
some photo etched foliage to the small tree.
The painting will be great fun here, too, that's for sure! |

Zeit habe ich überlegt, was ich noch als kleines "Gegengewicht" für
Leo auf die Basis setzen könnte.
Und dann gab mir ein gute Freundin (vielen Dank für diese Inspiration,
Maywhinn!) eine niedliche kleine Warhammer Waldelfen Plastik-Eule.
Die macht sich jetzt, mit dazumodellierten Krallen, ganz excellent
auf meinem Bäumchen!

he whole
time I tought about some small "counterpart" for Leo, to be placed
somewhere on the base.
And then the other day a good friend of mine (thank you for the inspiration,
Maywhinn!) gave me this small plastic Owl from her Warhammer Woodelves bits box.
It now sits, with some aditionally sculpted claws, perfectly on the
tree.
Hoot! Hoot!

Letzt hab ich dann noch aus Procreate Modelliermasse ein paar
klitzekleine Pilze modelliert und auf dem Sockel verteilt.
Grundiert habe ich die ganze Scenerie dann wie immer mit meinem Airbrush.
Mit einem Pinsel wäre das sicher auch nicht ganz so flott gegangen.
Vorher hab ich den Holzsockel aber noch mit Kreppklebeband und Latexmilch
zum Schutz vor der kommenden Bemalung versiegelt.
Und so steht das Ganze jetzt da und wartet auf Farbe.
ls Nächstes werde ich mich jetzt aber
erstmal wieder um Leo kümmern. Ich habe da noch so 1-2 Ideen, bevor
ich auch auf ihn Farbe drauf mache... |
inally I
sculpted a few mushrooms from Procreate sculpey and placed
them randomly all over the base.
After all that, like always, I basecoated the whole scene with my
airbush and white car primer. I'm sure it would have taken a bit longer
with a normal brush.
But before priming, I have sealed the wooden socket again with adhesive
tape and latex milk to protect it from the priming and further painting.
And so it now rest on my desk and awaits further treatment.
ut next I will deal a bit with Leo
again. I have a couple of ideas wit him, before slapping on some paint. |
